Stockport Heritage Open Days 2010

Thousands of places open their doors free of charge for Heritage Open Days, celebrating England’s rich architecture, history and culture.
And Stockport will be no exception, with over 45 FREE events this year, many taking place for the first time. So grab the chance to explore somewhere that is normally closed or usually charges an entrance fee.
As a Heritage Open Days first, pub game aficionados can enjoy a nostalgic evening playing one of their favourite pub pastimes. If church architecture is more your thing, look out for a host of new churches and chapels opening their doors this year as part of a Stockport Belief Trail.
Look out in this year’s programme for… magnificent Gothic revival interiors, the Green Man, organ concerts, shove halfpenny, Bonnie Prince Charlie, a historic armoured hat, 1930s knicker elastic, a Crematorium tour, backstage theatre tours, tripe dressers, a medieval dungeon, a Jacobean staircase, pie-tasting, watercolour workshops, gravestones of the famous, Pre-Raphaelite stained glass, river valleys, traditional crafts, big bands, Victorian schoolrooms and more…
HODs would not take place without the volunteers who give their time by guiding tours, giving talks, producing brochures and offering refreshments. HODs is co-ordinated nationally by English Heritage.
